Rug Cleaning Process

Rug Cleaning Process: Step-by-Step

Every rug has a story and we treat each one with the care it deserves. Our step-by-step rug cleaning process is how we make sure your rug gets cleaned the right way, from start to finish. Whether it’s a family heirloom passed down through generations or a modern area rug you picked up last season, each step is designed to clean deep, protect the fibers, and bring out the best in your rug. We don’t rush. We don’t cut corners with your rug cleaning. This is what a rug spa treatment looks like.

Step 1 - Visual Inspection

We start with a thorough inspection. That means identifying the fiber type—wool, silk, synthetic, or a blend—so we know exactly how to handle it. We look for worn areas, staining, tears, or signs of previous repairs. High-traffic zones and delicate sections get flagged. This is where we take notes and prep for a customized approach. It’s how we avoid surprises later and make sure the rug gets the expert rug cleaning it needs.

Step 2 - Bleed Test

Before any rug cleaning begins, we run a dye stability test. Some dyes, especially in handmade rugs, can run if exposed to moisture or heat. This test helps us confirm the colorfastness of the rug so we can avoid any bleeding or fading during the wash. It’s a simple step—but absolutely essential for protecting the look and integrity of the piece.

Step 3 - Dust Extraction & Dust Reveal

Vacuuming doesn’t reach the deep-down grit that hides in a rug’s foundation. Our dusting system shakes out years of embedded dirt, sand, skin cells, allergens, and other debris. It’s not glamorous, but it’s eye-opening. Removing dry soil before washing prevents that dirt from turning to mud during the bath. This step makes a major difference in how effective the rest of the rug cleaning process is.

Step 4 - Aroma Infused Bath

With the dry soil removed, your rug is ready for its soak. We place it in a specialized bath with our aroma-infused solution—designed to gently loosen grime, soften fibers, and start neutralizing odors. This isn’t a harsh chemical dunk. It’s a carefully balanced formula that refreshes the rug while keeping its structure and dyes safe.

Step 5 - Spot Cleaning Treatment

Next, we address individual problem areas. Pet stains, red wine spills, ink marks—whatever’s on your rug, this is where we tackle it. Our technicians work hands-on to apply targeted rug cleaning treatments and gently agitate each stain. If something needs extra time or attention, we give it just that. No shortcut spray-and-go treatments here.

Step 6 - Transporting & Loading the Rug

Once spot treatments are complete, the rug is transferred into a rinse cradle. This equipment supports the rug’s shape and allows us to move it safely through the process without causing creasing, stretching, or stress on fragile edges. We treat every rug like it’s one of a kind—because it is.

Step 7 - Water Expulsion Therapy

Now it’s time to rinse and extract. The rug is placed in our centrifuge system, which gently spins out water and cleaning solution without twisting or pulling the fibers. It’s one of the safest, most effective ways to remove moisture. This rug cleaning step prevents mold, mildew, and long dry times—and protects the rug from damage during the drying phase.

Step 8 - Final Examination

After the rinse and spin, we bring the rug out for one more close look. We double-check for remaining spots, texture inconsistencies, or anything that might need a repeat wash. If there’s a detail out of place, we fix it. Our rug cleaning process gets cleared by an experienced technician before it moves on.

Step 9 - Final Drying

Finally, your rug is hung in a controlled drying room with filtered air circulation and gentle fans. This environment helps the rug dry evenly and completely, avoiding shrinkage or fiber distortion. Once dry, the rug is rolled, wrapped, and ready for delivery.

Your rug’s been through a lot. Let it say "Ahhhh."
